    Hey There!

So, I am a custom bridal seamstress with six years experience. Most of my brides come to me when they have a difficult to fit figure type (like your friend) or can’t find what they want in stores. It is so wonderful that your friend is supporting the miracle of life! It is a tricky thing as far as the dress goes though, and it greatly depends on what month/trimester the bride will be when she gets married.

    1. There are maternity lines out there, but they tend to be pretty pricey and do not come in a great range of tastes. David’s bridal has a “maternity appropriate” line that I absolutely hate, but might be worth looking into. Some better dresses can be found here: http://www.maternity-wedding-dresses.com/

    2. Work with a seamstress that has dealt with pregnancy before, or is at least very well armed with knowledge on how to handle it. Your fittings should not even start normally until 6-8 weeks before the wedding, and that time span is cut at least in half during a pregnancy just because your body is changing so much more quickly. The best way I deal with this in my studio is planning ahead the time, and starting fittings about two weeks before the wedding and completing it as a rush order.

    3. Your friend is pregnant, and wearing a dress that tries to hide it will just make her look fatter than she is. And that isn’t what any bride wants! Pregnancy is beautiful and should be showcased. You don’t have to flaunt the belly, but don’t try to disguise it behind a mound of tulle or gathered satin. The simple truth is that you won’t do this successfully, especially if your friend is 5+ months along.

    4. Another possibility is buying a dress quite a few sizes too big, and having everything but the belly taken in. Please know that this *cannot* be done on all dresses! Ask your bridal consultant or an in house seamstress what is possible on any given dress, because nothing would be worse than finding the perfect dress and not being able to wear it. Something super corseted, something with a complex closure or boning, and something without side seams will all be impossible to alter into the shape your friend will need.

    5. Lastly, it is always an option to have a dress made. It is pretty inexpensive compared to what people think (I’ve done really beautiful, unique gowns for $350 which are never made again) and you can mix and match dresses that you love, and then have it made to be a maternity gown. Make sure if you go this route, you go with a seamstress that has a full picture portfolio, a few years under his/her belt and brides you can call that have already had dresses made. (Not altered! Making a gown and altering a gown are completely different things.)

Phew! That was a lot of information for you to sort through, and I hope that helps. I wish your friend the most beautiful wedding and a life of happiness with her new baby! :)

You can search for Maternity wedding dresses and you will get many results.
Most websites can provide custom-made service for making Maternity wedding dresses, you can get the correct measurements as seller requested and provide it to seller for tailoring the dress for you.

She should plan a quick wedding so she wont gain much weight. OR suggest she buy any wedding dress with a high waist so that her waist can grow and it will still probably fit. All she has to do is go into any bridal shop and ask their advice.
